Fall 2025
At the Sanford Journal of Public Policy, we believe that responsible dialogue is at the heart of sound policymaking. Our mission is not simply to present consensus, but to engage with diverse ideas and spirited debate—especially when those debates challenge assumptions or unsettle conventional wisdom.
In an era marked by increasing polarization and rapid information cycles, the space for thoughtful disagreement has too often narrowed. Yet, as students and practitioners of public policy, we recognize that innovation depends on our ability to wrestle openly with differing perspectives. The most durable, equitable, and effective policies emerge when competing ideas are aired, tested, and refined in the light of evidence and reasoned critique.
Freedom of speech and academic inquiry are foundational to our work. We stand by the principle that the Journal should serve as a forum for robust, respectful exchange—where contributors can question prevailing narratives and advance alternative policy paths without fear of dismissal or censorship. This commitment does not mean every opinion will—or should—be universally accepted. It means we value rigorous argument, honest evidence, and civil discourse as tools for collective learning.
We welcome submissions that explore alternative policy opinions thoughtfully and constructively, grounded in analysis rather than ideology, and in pursuit of better outcomes for the communities we serve. Our goal is not to declare winners in public debate, but to enrich the conversation and encourage readers to think more critically about the complex choices that shape public life.
Thank you for being part of this community of inquiry and exchange.
Sincerely,
Teresa Meloni (Editor in Chief) & Divya Priyadarshini (Co -Editor in Chief)
